Ach, ye got some rather disturbin’ methods here, Lord Deior. [There’s quite the sarcastic emphasis on the word ‘Lord’.] Last time I hopped a gate, I can truthfully tell ya that I didn’t have a bit a’issue asides a scratch or two.
 
[And she definitely didn’t DIE or lose her MEMORY or anything like that. Merida is still really shaken up about all that.]
 
Anyone up for a wee bit of huntin’? Got an itch to shoot me bow for a time.

[Merida nods, then scurries back a few steps.]

Right right, o'course. I'll stay outta yer way.

[So he's - actually going to do this.

It takes him a moment, because he's never actually changed in front of someone who wasn't a shape shifter themselves. ...or Chloe, but that - hadn't been intentional. And isn't something he wants to think of right now.

But the anxiety is actually helping a bit, getting him riled up enough that he can feel the wolf stirring under the surface, and he grabs onto it. Then he's changing form, dropping to the ground on hands and knees to accommodate bones twisting and muscles shifting, fur sprouting up as his spine reshapes itself.

It's not exactly the prettiest of processes, but before long, he's in full wolf form, kicking off his jeans before sitting down, not looking at her.]

Brilliant, [She is whispering now, eyes wide because holy shit he just changed in front of her.]

A wolf. You just -- to a wolf.

[His tail immediately starts wagging slightly when she says 'brilliant', almost against his will. Stupid tail, not letting him pretend to be surly.

But he looks up at her, almost hopefully, even as he raises and lowers one shoulder in an approximation of a shrug.]

[Merida inches closer still, hand tentatively reaching out, just a bit in order to indicate her intentions.]

Can I?

[Now she felt really bad about shooting him with her arrow.]

[He lets out an annoyed huff, like it's a terrible inconvenience, but the effect is probably ruined since his tail is still wagging a little.

But he nods anyway, pretending that's not happening at all.]

[She gingerly reaches forward and touches his head with her hand, sliding her fingertips into his fur.

He's a little softer than she expected and it makes her grin with childlike glee before she starts to give the top of his head a good scritch.]

[He holds still, not wanting to scare her, until she starts grinning.

Then he pushes his head slightly into her hand, leaning into her stratching.]

[That makes her laugh, and she drops to her knees right there in the dirt and ruffles his fur with both hands, grinning at him.]

[Hey, what. No. He's not adorable. Never mind the fact that most of the time he's in wolf form, he makes the conscious decision to act harmless and friendly, so as not to scare people. That still doesn't make him adorable.

Derek snorts, a disgruntled huff, but that doesn't stop him from butting his head lightly against her shoulder, tail still wagging.

It's hard not to be tentatively happy, with her reacting so well to him in wolf form.]
